Uckers

For this project, I created a set of character designs and a scenery render for a colleague of mine, who wanted to create an XBOX game to enter into the Dream Build Play 2008 Competition. The process was slightly ‘off the cuff’ and a lot of redundant work was done, but I enjoyed it.
The game, called Uckers, was meant to have a navel, seafaring theme, therefore I created and designed 3 seafaring characters, Lillian the mermaid, Pierre the drunken sailor, and Balthazar, A Pirate captain.
Unfortunately, the mermaid (my favourite) was rejected and so another character was created. I was asked to create the characters expressing different emotions to reflect how they were doing in the game. I came up with a navel captain Claude, as the replacement character.
Eventually, it turned out that including of these characters into the game, would have created more work than was absolutely necessary. Perhaps creating the basic game mechanics was a huge task in itself. And so, three characters become one, Pierre.
And then 3 characters became none. In the end I provided my colleague with the Uckers logo, and a scene render which was used a backdrop of the game, below is a version of this render.
